Michael R. Schuppenhauer, Ph.D., brings over 25 years of expertise in cleantech, renewable energy, biosciences, and business innovation. Since 2011, he has served as the CEO and President of the U.S. operations of Farmatic Inc., driving advancements in sustainable technologies.
Michael’s distinguished career includes serving as Vice President at Fleishman-Hillard, where he specialized in strategic communications and public policy at both state and federal levels. He also held roles as Senior Editor and Director of Business Development with BioCentury Publications, Inc.
Earlier in his career, Michael worked in Paris with Hambrecht & Quist (now JPMorgan), leading corporate finance initiatives across Europe. At McKinsey & Company, he contributed to strategic projects in Zurich, Brussels, and Stockholm, and later served as a project manager with Prognos AG in Basel and Munich. His work advising the German and Swiss federal governments on economic strategies spurred the growth of emerging companies.
Michael has played pivotal roles in global business transformations, including preparing a major global merger, raising close to $100 million for two IPOs, and establishing two successful biotech venture funds.
He holds an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Hamburg in Germany and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). In 1991, he was a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where his master’s thesis focused on thermophilic microorganisms. In 1990, he gained industry experience with Ciba-Geigy in Basel, Switzerland.
